Some days just stay with you. And this one? Definitely one of them. A proposal on Lake Como.
We were out on Lake Como, right around sunset, on this old wooden boat that looked like something from another time — in the best way possible. It creaked softly with every wave, and the light on the water had that warm golden hue that photographers (and lovers) dream about.
The couple was quiet at first, soaking it all in. She had no clue what was coming.
It Started in Bellagio — As All Great Love Stories Should
We met in Bellagio, which, if you’ve never been, is like walking around inside a watercolor painting. Narrow alleys, lake views at every turn, and a calm vibe that makes you forget your phone even exists.
He was a little nervous. Not over-the-top, just… quietly excited. The good kind of nerves. You could tell this moment meant everything to him.
They boarded the boat thinking they were just going for a nice little cruise. The kind where you drink in the views and maybe a glass of prosecco. But he had a ring burning a hole in his pocket.
The Proposal Lake Como– In Front of Villa La Cassinella
Somewhere along the way, the boat slowed down. We were floating right in front of Villa La Cassinella, this hidden gem that sits just off the shoreline. It’s private, peaceful — the kind of place that doesn’t need to say anything to impress you.
He turned to her, said a few quiet words (I stayed back, gave them space), and then — yep — down on one knee.
Her face said it all. Shock, laughter, a hand to the mouth, eyes wide, then full of tears. And then the yes. The kind of yes that doesn’t need to be loud to echo.
Film Was a Must
I had my digital gear with me, of course, but I also brought my film camera — couldn’t resist. There’s something about shooting on 35mm that feels more personal, more real. Less perfect, maybe, but more true.
Some of the best frames came right after the proposal. No posing, no instructions. Just two people looking at each other like the world had stopped turning — and maybe, for a second, it had.
Why Propose on Lake Como?
Honestly? Because it’s got that rare mix of elegance and silence. You’re surrounded by beauty, but it’s not flashy. It’s quiet, timeless. And doing it by boat gives you the kind of privacy that’s hard to find these days.
It’s not about the big gesture. It’s about making space for the real moment.
Thinking of Doing Something Similar?
If Lake Como’s been on your mind — and if you’re thinking about popping the question in a way that feels real — let’s talk. We’ll help you plan something low-key but unforgettable.
No forced smiles. No weird posing. Just you two, the lake, and maybe a roll or two of film to remember it all.
